Personal Background
Adinah’s practical reverence for Mother Earth was conveyed from her parents. Her Mom, Rosa Lee Gill, growing up in rural Rocky Mount, North Carolina, was taught “plant” medicine and midwifery as a way of daily living from her Aunt Mattie Jane during her childhood. As a result, Rosa Lee chose nursing as her profession; serving and healing others as a minister, educator, and women of Godliness and extreme wisdom throughout her life.
And her (true) Dad, Frank Gill Jr, was careful to carry forth and reconstitute his culture and lifestyle as a rural farmer from Lodi,Texas (near Marshall, Texas & Shreveport, Louisiana) into an urban facsimile that consisted of family nature outings, hunting, fishing, raising all the family’s vegetables, picking and preserving fruit, brewing and concocting all manner of “country” herbal remedies, and providing family and friends with an ample supply of fresh eggs from his own Rhode Island Red chickens.
Becoming seriously ill during and after her first pregnancy, she enrolled in a community college course covering the properties of natural foods conducted by and in the home of a Seventh Day Adventist nutritionist. She later joined the Burgess Health Products Nature’s Sunshine distributorship team and began a formal study of iridology and herbology under the tutelage of herbalist Jean Burgess (now deceased) in Portland, Oregon. During this time she embraced and maintained a strict raw food vegetarian diet and lifestyle. Tested by a medical doctor after six years in her regime; no trace of her previously diagnosed dis-ease was detected.
Studies for several years in the Unity Church and with Religious Science of Mind Practitioner, Alexis Eastwick preceded her training and practice of techniques taught by Paramahansa Yogananda beginning in 1995. Yogananda’s Self Realization Fellowship Lessons offer inspiration and practical guidance for achieving balanced physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. She was initiated as a Kriya Yogi in the Self-Realization Fellowship Church in 2000.
Gracefully accepting her gifts of spirit, reinventing and integrating her life into balance were the positive outcomes of an extremely painful emotional transit of overcoming relationship loss and undergoing career change. Soul chanting and playing Crystal Singing Bowls served to clear and balance her mind-body during this passage. Toning and balancing the body’s energy centers or charkas with singing bowls is now an effective method used by Adinah to assist others to heal as well.
Note from Adinah:
The name Addie (Ade/Adi) has several origins: crown or royal in Yoruba; ornament, adornment or jewel in Hebrew; first or primeval in Sanskrit. After a period of intense “spiritual initiation” Adinah was a name used by various spirit guides and teachers that I soon begin to recognize as a special term of endearment, meaning “First of God”; it is the name that I feel most in harmony with and now use for myself.
